The other day, I went to install a TV/Video (PCI) card in my computer (running Windows NT 4.0 WorkStation, SP6a). The installation software went and installed the drivers and did a reboot so the changes could take effect.
Upon reboot, I get the error message that my Remote Control Procedure (RPCSS.EXE) can not find an entry point to MSVCRT.DLL
So the first thing I do is make sure that MSVCRT.DLL is still there. I also search the entire drive to see if there are other MSVCRT.DLL’s and I found two others but they were in the root of of their installed directories in Program Files.
Oh, and the TV/Video card doesn’t start up either. The RPC service does start up.
I remove/un-install the drivers and the card and restart NT. The error message still pops up but the RPC service still starts.
For kicks, I re-apply Service Pack 6a which doesn’t solve the problem.
I can’t seem to find any reference/help in the current issue of the TechNet CD nor can I find anything on Microsoft’s web site.
