Why can’t I preview?

I have WinXP + SP3 on my Desktop and have downloaded the Adobe svg viewer. I use Notepad for code saving files with *.html. I fully understand the excellent. I also have a new laptop with Win 7, on which I haven’t yet tried to write svg.

I used the “embed” code in the body tags followed by a simple rectangle with fill and stroke attributes, but I can only get a faint grey rectangle and text to appear in the preview, for which I double click on the file name and extension, eg svg1.html.

Can someone please help with the steps I should be taking to rectify this?
