Why can’t my computer recognize flash devices?

My USB ports won’t recognize any flash devices. I have Service packs 1/2/3 all installed. When I put my flash in a USB port it is not recognized. I’ve checked the port properties which say the drivers are working properly. Any ideas about where I should go from here.
