Why does my Outlook close down immediately

I think this happened right after an Adobe automatic update.

Outlook 2000 opens and then almost immediately closes down.
I’ve tried fixing the pst file, reloading Outlook, swopping with an earlier saved pst file, to no avail. I can’t even import Outlook into Thunderbird as it says it can’t find a valid email client. Help!!
