Win 98 Startup Error Message .dll

During Startup I get this error message –
A required .dll file, c:\windows\system\crtdll.dll was not found. This message displays in a dialog box on the desktop. After trying to open MS Word from the start screen I then get this error message – Windows cannot find winword.exe. This program is needed for opening file of type ‘cnv file.’ Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
