Win media player 10 poor sound quality

The sound from win media player 10 real bad, I did go to device manager and changed the digital to analog in the properties of the drive. That same terribble sound has now been corrected for the CD’s played in the drive,whowever;the existing wma and mp3 files saved on the hd still sound like the digital is still turned on. I am not sure which one of the events lead to the problem, installing the Nero OEM suite, which came with the Mad Dog CD-DVD burner or the last windows update or some other install. I have since un-installed the Nero suite and still this did not help. This problem effects just about everything sound wise, except the CD rom, which I fixed. thanks
