Win2k and NT4, File Copy, Backup, Move S

I have two Compaq Proliant 3000 with the standard 9 GB drives. One has Win2k the other has NT4. Both have most up to date SP and drivers for the entire system. When I back up or copy anything from an NT4 box to the 2k box it is slower then frozenpond water. This is the case when I try and move, copy, backup anything that would involve a file coming or going cross platforms. I need help, I can’t be the only one with this problem.
