Friend #1 has an older Dell Tower that I am going to upgrade from WinXP Pro to Windows 7. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is happy with the current hardware (3.4 GHz Pentium w/ hyper-threading, 3 GB RAM and a video card that can handle Aero, plus adequate drive space).
She’s currently looking for a new job, and a couple of the possibilities are as a “virtual” executive assistant. I expect that will require her to connect over a VPN via RDP.
Friend #2 is quite computer literate, but had problems making reliable connections with RDP over VPN with Win7 Home Premium on an HP laptop he bought shortly after Windows 7 went RTM.
He was working at a university at the time so he got a sweet educational discount on Win7 Ultimate. All of his connection problems went away after the upgrade.
So the question is: Did Service Pack 1 fix enough things so that RDP over VPN connections will work reliably with Windows 7 Home Premium, or will we need to install Windows 7 Pro to ensure good connectivity? (assume that adequate bandwidth exists)
Thanks for your insights,
ron
