win98 holding policy

How can I keep Win98 from keeping my login policy when I take it home? I tried making separate hardware setups in the device manager but it gives me a blue screen as if it doesn’t know what hardware setup to use after initially at the menu telling it whether to use modem or NIC. Also I release my IP as well and it still will not let anyone else in who wishes to use my laptop from home to dial in to work.
