Win98 Slow Shutdown & Startup

Not a shattering problem, but annoying when having to do a complete shutdown and cold start, when I shutdown, it takes about 40 seconds to bring up the Windows 98 logo screen (with the “Windows is shutting down” message), then a further 45 seconds to get to get to the orange “it is now safe to switch off your computer” message.

As far as boot & startup are concerned, this is not so bad but still slow (I have inserted bootdelay=0 in the Win.ini file).

Any suggestions as to how I might speed things up.

Win98 version is 4.10.1998.
