Windows 7 XPS Viewer

Does anyone use this? Are there .XPS files out there? Is it supposed to be in competition with the .PDF file format? The viewer in Windows 7 seems pretty primitive and rudimentary. Does Microsoft really expect XPS to overtake PDF?
