Windows 8 live tile dev question

Is it possible to change a win32 app to have a live tile (or a dead tile that looks good?) instead of the windows 8 default empty white window icon?
I am having trouble finding the right documentation on how to do this (if it can be done)

I am hoping I can make something that reads our database and shows any items in the queue that are ready for processing.
