Windows drivers and linux drivers Nexus 5

Hello so I have a nexus 5 phone and it seems to connect via mtp no problem on linux but when it comes to windows I keep getting error 43 and I have looked all over google to fix the drivers but I have had no lucky any ideas on how I can fix the problem? this is a nexus 5 running dirty unicorn rom. edit: ive tried it on my windows 8 laptop and my roommates windows 7 laptop get the same error on both.
