Ive asked this in the network section, but im putting it here as well just in case im putting it in the wrong section!
my prob is this;
i have a voyager 205 modem with built in router, 2 ports, belkin router 4 ports, three computers all running windows xp pro, now the prob im having is probably to do with N.A.T, but im not sure yet, not being the expert the rest of you are lol. Im connecting the three computers thru the belkin router to the voyager modem to the internet to play games, access the internet blah blah etc. the prob is that im getting intermittent access on all three machines, sometimes its perfect, sometimes it stops for up to 4 mins then comes back on. can anyone help?
as much info as i can think of follows;
ICS is off
all three comps are above 1 gig processor speed,
cat 5 cables(cables checked out ok)
ran router setup disk on all three machines
cloned mac address for primary computer into the belkin router(just in case the modem needed it)
DHCP enabled(lease time for ip’s is set to forever)
dns comes from the modem, thru router to the 3 computers
ping times to the router are all under 30ms
intermittent ping results to the modem thru the router(no idea why)
windows firewall turned off on all three(just in case again)
put each machine at a time into the dmz on the router(again just to figure out if was just 1 machine, not the other 2)
not using any application gateways
virtual servers routing external msn messenger calls to three machines
no client ip filter specified
no mac address filtering specified
no wan ping blocking
connection type set to dynamic
now if anyone can help me i will be sooooooooo thankful! its really starting to bug me that i cant fix this(by the way, would the keepalive setting in the registry have anything to do with this?)
from a really confused user of xp.
