Windows Mobile Device does not connect to Vista

Suddenly a Windows Mobile device which was connected, set up, and synchronizing (with the wrong Outlook profile at the beginning) with Windows Mobile Device Center on Windows Vista is not not connecting at all. Nothing happens/appears when connected by USB. Re-installing WMDC did not help.
