Windows Registry Problem – Laplink Installation

I have had an ongoing problem since LapLink to install programs and files from a W98SE machine to my XPHome machine. The error message described below always appears on boot-up. There appears to be no problems with the OS functioning.

Error Message on Start-Up:

“Windows encountered an error accessing the System Registry. Windows will restart and repair the registry for you.”

When I press ‘OK’ I receive the following message:

“Registry Checker encountered a problem and needs to close.” If you check ‘Debu’ the notification screen goes away.

I have tried to clean the Registry with both Norton Utilites and Registry Mechanic 4.0. Each program will find a few corrections but nothing clears up this start up screen.

Any suggestions?
