Windows XP DHCP Problem

by dessart . Updated 20 years, 9 months ago

Alright, a bit complicated but I’ll make it quick. One of my departments began experiencing problems with Windows XP SP2 machines getting online (most are Dell OptiPlex GX270s, the rest are various model of other Dells) via DHCP. All were able to get on fine previously.

What has started happening is the machines having problems are pulling the IP 10.0.1.10 with the Gateway/DNS/DHCP server address as 10.0.1.1. These are NOT the IPs on our subnet (no where near). Additionally when I spoke with the network engineer managing the router he informed me that at MACs for these machines are showing up in the router pulling proper IPs. Additionally, when I did ‘arp -a’ in windows the machines are return that there are no ARP entries.

At this point we are lost if this is network or workstation related (it’s happening on about 6 different machines, all connected to the same Cisco switch, which other PCs are connecting to fine without problem).
