windows Xp slave drive

I have installed a new WD master drive on windows xp and a samsung slave drive i cannot get windows to recognise the slave. CMOS sees the slave windows device mgr can see the slave, but i cannot access it. All straps are correct and i have tried different IDE buses. HELP 🙂
