I just upgraded to a 802.11g WAP by Linksys, running in conjunction with my cable modem. My “master” computer, which is connected to the WAP via Ethernet, runs Windows XP Professional SP2.
Using my old (802.11b) Linksys wireless card with my Windows XP SP2 Home laptop–no problems.
However, just for giggles I purchased a new 802.11g wireless card (also from Linksys), and installed it in the laptop.
Everything seems to function fine with the new card EXCEPT that every 30 to 60 seconds, I lose my wireless connectivity. A few seconds later, the connection comes back up–but then it goes right back down again.
Of course, that’s a pretty big “except”, so for now I have fallen back to using the old card (the 802.11b). I’m guessing that there’s some kind of “handshake” or “authentication” that isn’t quite working with the new 802.11g card.
Has anyone else encountered this? Is this a software setting, or do I have bad hardware?
Any reasonable suggestions gratefully considered…thanx in advance.
