Word 2003 slow to drop down fonts list

So I need to change fonts in all or part of a document. I highlight the text to change… click the drop down fonts menu and WAIT… every time it takes 6 – 7 seconds to display my options. I’ve googled on the phrase: ‘Word 2003 slow to drop down fonts list’ … but have not found anything close to addressing this problem. Ran ‘Detect & Repair’ in Word, and finally re-installed Office altogether. No dice. Any help??
