XP: Window size and position- how to restore/reset?

Probably a simple answer to this but mind’s gone blank…..

Many windows (application and tools) when used on her XP profile disappear off the screen when launched. E.G, launch printer status from command bar and it zooms off to the left of the screen and disappears, icon is on the widow bar and has to be maximised to view. Make any change and it disappears again. Some tool windows open with only the title bar visible and we need to select the edge and drag to resize (starts next time with only title bar).

Any suggestions, I thought there used to be a key combination to reset app windows? The ‘cascade windows’, ’tile windows…’ donot appear to work when the suspect windows are open……..
