I had been considering the purchase of a laptop computer for my own personal use for about the past 6 months. Ever since I installed a wireless router in my home, I have been fixated on the idea of getting and replying to e-mail from my easy chair. And with the widespread availability of WiFi hotspots around town, I figured a laptop would allow me to write articles, blogs, and e-mails from just about anywhere, thus freeing me from the confines of my home office.

It was with that mindset that I walked into a local Best Buys and found a deal on a Compaq Presario V2000 notebook. I have been generally impressed by the amount of computing power contained in this relatively inexpensive laptop. The following photo gallery review shows you some of the Presario’s features and it just might convince you to buy one for yourself.

At the Vintage Computer Festival, which played host to the Homebrew Computer Club’s 30th anniversary, a look at yesterday’s computers.

One aspect of the MMORPG genre that separates it from other game types is the requirement that you take on a role. In most cases, a role requires the choosing of an avatar, a class and a profession. This combination, along with other attributes acquired during your character’s development, will uniquely identify your character within the massively multiplayer community. To start the parade of gaming avatars created by TechRepublic members, I have posted several of my current characters from the World of Warcraft.

If you’d like to add your virtual world creations to our gallery, submit a screenshot photo (preferably in JPEG format) of your in-game avatar.

There is one caveat; you must be a TechRepublic member in order to have your submitted photo accepted. Just include a link to your profile page along with your photo.

The Homebrew Computer Club’s 30th anniversary celebration was part of the Vintage Computer Festival at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif.
