30 GB ipod-icrap!

i have the 30gb video i pod, not sure what generation, but i bought it a year ago new from apple, its thin so…. Display stays illuminated,when i connect to my comp and itunes, i get an error saying that (right now i am waiting for the error to come up so i can type it in)(still waiting). can anyone point me in the right direction….
