550 not localhost, amerigocompanies.com not a gateway

My user, our CEO, is working from home today, using VPN to access his workstation here. For the first time ever, when using Outlook on his work station to send mail, he’s getting the “550 not local host, not a gateway” error message.

We’ve not changed the settings in Outlook for any of his e-mail accounts. The SMTP server we use does not require authentication, and we have none for that server. We all use the same SMTP server settings in this office and none of us have encountered this error before.

Would the fact that he’s connected to his workstation have something to do with the ISP he’s connecting through? If so, why would this suddenly be an issue when it hasn’t been in the past? Is there a work-around for it? We certainly don’t want to change the settings in all his e-mail accounts to match his home ISP every time he works from home.
