I get to offline for the next couple of days and get ready
for my first big fundraiser for the 3 Day.
If you’re new here, I walk 60 miles in three days for the
purpose of raising both $$$ and awareness of breast
cancer. Oh, and train around 600 miles to get to the point
where I CAN walk the 60!
Last year over 3000 walkers in the Twin Cities raised over
6.4 Million dollars in an effort to find a cure. THIS walker
raised over $6000. Over $1500 came from YOU.
The event this year is in September for the Twin Cities.
But the time to get ready is right now.
If you live in Minnesota and are up for a totally crazy
Thursday night, join us at the Dugout Bar in Mahtomedi
for some great rock provided by a band of guys who are
all over 50 and programmers by day. They really are quite
good. As this is my third 3 Day, this event is being called
the 3-peat of a Lifetime. This is also the third year in a
row that we have done this show with the Stealth Dogs at
the Dugout.
This year, we are also doing a silent auction to try to
encourage donations.
As of today, I have raised $1100 and have to raise another
$1100 to be able to walk at all. I am trying this year to
raise $10,000. So I have a way to go.
Again, TR peers have stepped up. You are responsible for
$100 of the $1100 that I have currently raised.
This year, I have buttons- they are pink and say F*CK
CANCER. Anyone making a donation that wants one, peer
me with an address. I will make sure that you get one.
Oh- a new twist this year. The Pink Ribbon Brigade has
become a 3 Day team. Were having a slow start but I feel
confident that I will have quite the group assembled by
September.
Every year, another person and another family is impacted
by breast cancer. Last November, I was facing the very
real possibility that I would be walking through a chemo
haze this year. Thankfully, that is not the case, but a
great reminder of why I walk.
And men- you aren’t excluded. Every year 4000 men are
diagnosed with breast cancer. 10% will die because they
don’t get the help they need soon enough. Most men
don’t know that they can even GET breast cancer.
So this begins my yearly rant. Ladies- schedule your
annual appointment with the nice folks who do your
mammograms. Gentlemen- at least do a BSE and if you
need help, get your significant other to give you a hand.
