So consuming alcohol daily raises your chance of breast cancer 30%. Interesting. I don’t consume alcohol daily.
Last I checked, there are specific genetic markers associated with breast cancer. Neil, correct me if I am wrong, but BrCA1 and BrCA2 are more likely to tell you if breast cancer (or prophylactic mastectomy) are in your future. Also last I checked, breast cancer has a causal relationship to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for estrogen positive cancer.
What has me ticked is that the study group was not validated nor marked based on genetic pre-testing nor was HRT a factor. But the story is sensational, let’s run with it.
AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!
I spent my day today trying to talk women around me out of the trees. They all assume that because they have a glass of wine with supper, they are giving themselves breast cancer. And I was asked more than once how much I drink.
Cancer is a horrible and terrible disease. Surviving is tough, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Why do we seem to feel a need to vilify the survivor? Why do we seem to feel a need to blame the victim?
My immediate knee-jerk response is to call this irresponsible crap masquerading as responsible science. I do well to remind myself of the “reputation” that Kaiser Permanente has built for itself over the years.
We used to call them “Malpractise Central”. It fit.
What are your opinions?
Edit- I missed a letter. Remind me to not post when I am ticked off…
