Assignment in India

I have an opportunity to manage a development team in southern India. I am interested in an international assignment, but a situation like this is new to me and I’m looking for tips about making this kind of transition, questions to ask about the compensation package, living and working conditions from an American’s perspective, etc. The assignment would be about a year. My wife would remain stateside at her job, but we’re considering having our children join me for part of the assignment.
