Autostart email from web browser

Are there any mechanisms to autostart a new email (from mail apps such as MS Outlook) from a web site via a web browser (IE, Netscape)? The idea is to start an email with message text and allow the user to modify, add addressees, and send the email on their own. Is this possible, and if so, how?
