Hi,
on an Everex PC I get the following screen from the POST, then it freezes completely. I can get into the BIOS if I hit DEL fast enough, but it all seems OK.
AWARD BIOS V4.51PG
V VAC43
P3 800E MHZ
AWARD PNP BIOS EXT 1.A
TREND CHIPAWAY VIRUS(R) ON GUARD VER 1.64A
BIOS GUARDIAN(R) ENABLED. YOU WILL NEED TO DISABLE BIOS GUARDIAN TO UPDATE BIOS.
CTRL+C TO ENTER CLOCK SETTINGS SUB-MENU.
CTRL+P TO LOAD PERFORMANCE DEFAULT SETTINGS AND RESTART.
CTRL+F TO LOAD FAIL-SAFE DEFAULT SETTINGS AND RESTART.
WHEN UDMA CABLE IN BIOS SETUP ITEM SET TO 80 PIN, YOU MUST USE 80 CONDUCTOR CABLE
SUGGESTED SDRAM CAS LATENCY TIME IS “2”
PRESS DEL TO ENTER SETUP, ALT+F2 TO ENTER AWDFLASH
None of the keys work afterwards.
The HD runs an 80pin cable and the BIOS is set to 80pin (although I tried 40 without success).
Also, there is no setting in the BIOS about CAS Latency Time.
I had someone suggest it could be a broken HD – is that possible?
I was also wondering about a possible virus trying to modify the BIOS and triggering the BIOS Guardian message.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
