Blackberry Server Hosting with Lotus Notes

by emj65 . Updated 20 years, 9 months ago

We are looking into introducing Blackberry devices (for the higher ups) into our company. We want to use a hosting service for Blackberry wireless email (we use Lotus Notes). The issue is that the hosting company needs to access Port 1352, while we would only be allowing their servers to access this port, the Network Manager has reservations. The alternative would be to bring a BES in-house, which would need to be supported. He has admitted to me that he dislikes the Blackberries, but if the IT Director wants them, he’ll comply. Does anyone have this type of set up, and if so, what are you doing to secure this port? Essentially, their Domino server will be cross certified with ours, and the only way any traffic can get through the port is by use of proper authentication. How much of a problem is this, and, are there alternatives that will satisfy both parties? Thank you.
