Can Windows in a Virtual Machine share files with host Mac OS laptop

I have a client who wants to go Mac, but needs to run Windows 7 in a virtual machine for dedicated software. Is it possible to share files between the VM and host machine?
Which VM is best for this purpose? How do I set it up?
