Canon MP160 printer driver problem

Trying to load drivers for a Canon Pixma MP160 multifunction printer/scanner … all goes fine until near the end when the following error is displayed-

“Error unable to register the uninstaller”

I have uninstalled with Canon’s recommended uninstaller before trying again … and have searched the registry for any obvious remaining entries, but still the same error message.
Have contacted canon who suggest downloaded the latest drivers which i had already done and they now have referred it back ‘up the line’

Has any one else experienced this problem or able to help bypass it?

solved… it was ‘stuff’ left in the registry …
