Cant type a document in Ms-Word, the alignment varies abruptly

Hi,
I am using Ms-Word 2003. The problem is, whenever I open a new document and hit enter, the cursor jumps five/six lines, even worse, it goes to the bottom of the page. I could not make a document properly. I tried even the reinstallation of complete Microsoft office, but still the problem persists. If I open an existing document and do the modification, it works fine. Looking strange! And any help would be greatly appreciated..
