Compaq lost sound after reformatting

After reformatting a Compaq presario 1255 and reinstalling windows 98, it lost all audio. Can anyone help me out with this one please? It shows an es1689 sound card but I believe the original was an aureal a3d. I can not find the drivers for an aureal to try that one.
