Has anyone seen this before? I am troubleshooting a computer running Windows ME. When I start the PC I get one beep. It then runs a memory test (128 megs) 3 times. After the memory test runs (3 times) I get a flash of all Primary and Secondary IDE devices and their respective brand names. The PC then goes to a screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. The floppy light then stays lit. My first thoguht was the floppy drive but it doesn’t appear to be it. I swapped with a known good floppy and same result. I then went into the BIOS and eliminated the floppy from the boot process, same result. The computers owner said that she was receiving errors relating to config.sys and himem.sys prior to this happening but of course nothing in detail and only after I swapped floppies. I can not reproduce the error because I can not ge into the system at all. It will not boot with an ME boot disk at all. I reseated the memory and even placed it in a different DIMM slot. No go! I suspect a virus of some sort but I am not sure. ANY SUGGESTIONS will be welcomed. I am new to this arena and more than willing to learn form those more experienced.
