Diagnostic Software

I am in the market for a good [but inexpensive] diagnostic
software. I’m running across client calls where I’m being
asked to perform a systems check to troubleshoot certain
problems like sound card trouble, and issues with boot up
problems and have realized that I am without a diagnostic
software. If anyone can tell me what’s good and what’s not,
that’d be great.
