I downloaded and examined this tool, which I now believe to be fatally flawed. It purports to measure employee attitude on a scale from “Committed” at the high end, through “Concerned” and “Emotionally Separated” down to “Lost Case” at the low end. However, there is an underlying assumption that upper and middle management are doing everything necessary (and succeeding) to create a positive and functional business environment. A management team that is failing in this regard would get entirely erroneous results from analyzing this survey of their employees in the manner described.
In reality, there are at least two scales here that interact. Let’s say that Management would be measured on a scale from “Positive/Supportive/Approachable” at the high end down to “Negative/Nonsupportive/Unapproachable” at the low end. If management falls generally at the high end, then the employee scale would have relatively high validity as presented. However, the closer management gets to the low end of their scale, the more the “Committed Employee” scale morphs into “Delusional Sycophant & Yes Person” at the ‘high’ end, while the bottom of the scale turns into “Trapped Realist & Job Seeker” instead of “Lost Case”.
(Okay. I concede that TR&JS bears a strong resemblance to LC.)
Not recommended.
