I’ve recently downloaded a whitepaper from LiveVault, an online disk-based backup company, which makes a very compelling argument against tape backup systems. I wish I could remember the link to the paper, but I’m sure you can find it at www.livevault.com. Please note that I am in no way advertising or endorsing this company and/or it’s services. I’m merely using them as an example. Microsoft as well makes the same argument that disk-based backup is far superior to tape backup.
So…I’m curious to know if any members have embraced this fairly new (at least to me) technology. If so, how do you like it? More importantly, how did you sell it to your dept. heads or executives. For me, herein lies the dilemma.
Let me explain…
A few months ago, before I took over this position from the previous admin, an Exabyte Autoloader was purchased, due to increasing backup sizes and automation of daily backups. IT STINKS!! Backups take over 14hrs. and I’m constantly fighting to get it to work properly with Veritas BackupExec.
So…how would you sell a disk based backup solution if you were in this same position?
