Duplicate Personal Folders will not close in Outlook 2003

by pwiener . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

A while ago I did a clean install of WinXP Pro w/SP2, then reinstalled Office 2003, copied the outlook.pst and archive.pst files to their correct directory (oops, folder) and when I opened Outlook there was the Personal Folders w/the Outlook Today icon and a second Personal Folders which was a duplicate of the other. I was not able to close the duplicate Personal Folders, receiving the message ‘The operation failed. An object could not be found”.

I have tried the usual:
* Detect & Repair
* Inbox Repair Tool
* Repair Office
* Uninstall/reinstall Office
* Uninstall/reinstall Office, then import from the outlook.pst file.
* Completely recreate the Mail profile

The duplicate Personal Folders just will not go away.

I’m not using Exchange, so it’s not an Exchange issue.

Any and all help getting rid of this beast will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
