Excel and pdf attachments slow to open in Outlook 2003

I have a user running Outlook 2003 in WinXP, on a Win2k domain with Exchange2000.

When opening M$ Excel attachments or Adobe pdf, it takes a very long time to open them(up to a minute). Other attachments open straight away(Word, etc).
