Extrovert MOther/Adult Introvert Daughter, advice needed from introverts

by zaneyzelda3 . Updated 18 years, 7 months ago

Hi, I am 56, divorced since 1985, my daughter is 27. My daughter and I have had a difficult relationship since she was engaged about 3 years ago. She is quite an introvert and I am an extreme extrovert. I didn’t know until she had the freedom to “escape” that she didn’t like my personality and me. WE still love each other, and I think the help I need is ….. as a blabbermouth extrovert, how can I speak or shut up in a way that is good for her. We truly love each other. Now remember, I can’t really become an introvert, but I can learn about how extroverts can slow down, calm down and shut up for a while for introverts. I think, she feels, Myers Briggs. I “think” she avoids me because there is lack of trust of privacy (our levels are extremely different) and I have an aggressive and competitive personality, all the wrong things for her. My friend said I am a dog that married a cat and had 2 cat children, and I think that explains it. I don’t feel introverts or extroverts are any better or worse, I just don’t know how to learn a language that doesn’t hurt her and one that doesnt’ hurt me too. I don’t know how this site works, but I can be emailed at zaneyzelda2@yahoo.com
