File access problem post BSOD

by imfrodo59 . Updated 19 years ago

I contracted a trojan. AVG cleared the beast from the downloaded file, but it was also in System restore. I turned off system restore to delete the infection. Upon restart I got BSOD re Boot Volume. I installed XP on a new HDD and changed the old drive to a slave. The new instal can see/read the programs but my data files are invisible. Drive properties in My computer say there is 5.38Gb of free space on the 250Gb drive but the Folder containing most of the data is “empty” and access is denied. The were no passwords set on the drive previously. Seagatetools says the drive is ok. I am tempted to try the recently reviewed “Get That Data Back” or Knoppix 5.0.1 neither of which I am familiar with. Any better suggestions please?
