Generic Host for Win32 Service

This is my first posting, I have the same message appearing on two machines on my network (which makes me thinks virus) however I see other postings indicate it may be a conflict: The message that appears at any time is: “Generic Host Process Error for win32 Services encountred a problem and needed to close.” I then get a series of svchost.exe – Application errors ie: “exception unknown software exception (0x0000409) occured in the application at location 0x5b86a3c0”.
