Tried to replace a Windows NT 4 6.a drive set last weekend. Stand-alone server. The drives are a mirror set (raid 0) and have 3 partitions.
Part 1 = 55 MB IBM partition created by IBM setup
Part 2 = 2 GB NTFS System partition
Part 3 = 17 GB NTFSLotus Domino partition
The IBM server has hot-swap bus, so no SCSI jumper settings are involved.
I tried two methods, mirroring and Norton Ghost.
1) I removed the 2nd drive, restarted, broke the mirror, restarted. Installed new 2nd drive, re-established mirrors, waitied until healthy. Removed 1st drive and tried to start with new disc.
Result = I would get to the blue NT screen, but the little dots never appeared, then got a blank screen with blinking cursor. Nothing else.
2)Restarted with old 1st drive. Broke mirror sets. Restarted to DOS. Used Norton Ghost 2002 to make disk to disk copy of old disk1 to new disk 2. This successfully copied all 3 partitions.
Result = Tried to boot using new drive only. Got past blue screen to NT System selection screen. But when the timer expired, or hit Enter, the system would re-boot. Stuck in this loop.
Any ideas why this happened? Any other methods I could use to replace my drives?
