I am looking for feedback from anyone else who is using ghost or other image software for win2k systems. There is an issue with putting an image from one pc onto a pc with a motherboard that requires a different HAL. If you look into your device manager under the computer in the device tree you will see a ref to the type of system. So far I usually see
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI PC)
I also see
Standard PC
What I have found is the Standard PC image will work on a ACPI type pc. But most ACPI images won’t work on most other PC’s usually when the MOBO chipset changes.
I have found that if you put a “Standard PC” image on a PC that should have a “ACPI” image it will work fine and also add the ACPI PC hal. After it boots you will see both types under the computer in the device tree. It seems to work well now after 12-15 image distributions. The only prob I see so far is on some systems when I power down I have push the power button off where a native image can shut itself down and on a few PC’s I had to hold the power button in for 5+ seconds. I am hoping others can help me confirm these findings or have corrections to them.
