Ghosting IDE to Sata Problem

I have Win XP and bought a SATA controller card. I ghosted my IDE 30GB to a new SATA 200GB. When I rebooted I kept getting svchost.exe errors. I tried to boot to each drive independantly but the only way my system will boot is with both connected. I was told to connect just the original IDE and do a windows repair. I did this and now that drive hangs up as my background appears – no icons or toolbars and no keyboard action. It will still boot when both drives are in. Help me please – anyone.
