Some education. Anyone who lives in any major city notice how it may have become a “Little India”? Not a coincidence. For years now companies here have pulled the wool over congress’s eyes telling them they need these foreign workers because technical people here “don’t have the skills we need”. Congress, being IT-ignorant, gladly gave them what they asked for.
The H1B Visa program is what resulted from their lobbying. For the past decade this sweet (for the foreigners) little program has helped drive job availability WAY down in this country. Employers here can find many existing U.S. citizens with the skills they require, but they don’t want to pay them squat, and DEFINITELY don’t want to pay a cent for even some minor training. They prefer to hire the foreign workers for much cheaper. (Nice for the employer, horrible for us) Though they’re thinking of lowering the cap on the # of these workers, the cap is still way too high. With our economy, we need every job for our own citizens.
Check the web – there are several good web sites for fighting the H1B visa program, which encourage you to email your congressman and even provide canned letters. If you want to save your job for the future, I HIGHLY recommend doing this. Some prominent Senators are beginning to see through the deceit.
“Offsourcing” (contracting to companies overseas)is another disturbing (growing) trend A good example: I called Dell several times over the last few months and every single phone call was answered by someone in India. They often use American names (maybe to fool you- what a joke), and when asked where they are, they hesitate and finally reluctantly say “India”. (Personally I’ll never buy a Dell computer again.)
Keep in mind many of these imported workers are also from China and other countries, but the majority are from India. There, they have many HUGE training academies, which pump these “imports” out at a record pace. And here in the U.S. there are Indian companies of whom a main task is to bring those people here to fill jobs. Now, I have nothing against foreigners but this selling out of American jobs has to stop.
