I know, I know, you should never use dynamic disks and software RAID. I had nothing to do with building this server, I just get the pleasure of trying to fix it.
The situation is this: The server has 4 disks on a hardware RAID 5 (well call that the system drives) and a PowerVault of 14 drives connected to a PCI SCSI card. One of the system disks on the server died and we replaced it and did a rebuild, no problem. While doing this, we noticed that another drive on the same array was going bad, so we ordered another disk. When it arrived, we installed it and did a rebuild, everything seemed to go fine, but then the server would not boot to the OS, failing right after it started loading. After a variety of things were tried, we ended up installing a parallel copy of Windows 2000 Server in the WINNT2 folder and were finally able to get in and see everything on the system array.
However, the SCSI attached powervault array, which contains all of the important data, shows up in Windows disk manager as an unknown volume. Each disk shows up as online but failed and reactivating the disks seems to do nothing.
Anyone have any ideas how to get a new copy of Windows 2000 to recognize a Dynamic disk array? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
