help needed (lost password)

i forgot my password (the one needed for logging into my acount) its a windows xp home edition laptop… and i figured i’d ask around the net to see if anyone knew a way to get around the $250 i would end up spending if i sent it into the shop…i have the computer in my hand right now… im using my other computer (my desktop win98?) to ask around…
i hope someone can help me…
