I have a small home network (3 computer, Linksys router/switch,cable modem) that incredibly i built myself. only 2 computers are involved in this, call computer 1 (c1) and computer 2 (c2). i do online daytrading and have the graphing program on c1 (my most powerful computer), and the brokerage firm on c2. the graphing company has provided me with basic info to set up for the data from the brokerage firm (which comes into c2)to be channeled into c1 for the graphs (they do not do support for this). c1 is using win xp pro, and c2 has win98. i am suppose to “add the ibserver name (ib is the reference to the brokerage firm -Interactive Brokers)to your hosts file and have it set to point to whatever IP tws (name of IB’s program)”, in their words.
Is that the host file in c1? in xp pro, i cannot find it. (in c2 with win98, i can run “winipcfg” and get “ip configuration”). i know the ip of c2, no probem there, and i guess i can get the ibserver name from the brokerage firm; but since c1 is xp-pro, is it different?? i saw in a book about a “remote desktop connection” install that is on the xp cd. do i use that?
as you can see, i am 3/4 lost. any help is greatly appreciated. TIA, fred l. austin, texas
